Recently extensively modernised the local Post Office provides, along with postal services, a coffee shop, news-agency and gift shop. Also in the village you’ll find a butchers and chemist. Watch the notice boards and shop windows in the village centre as most week-ends you’ll find there’s musical or theatrical entertainment going on at some local venue. At new year Alendale is noted for its Tar Barrel celebration. There are a wealth of wonderful walks right on the doorstep as well as horse riding and golf just a few miles up the valley. Keen fishermen can enjoy fishing at Langley, just four miles down the road.
