Hewish is a small hamlet with a tiny church, tucked away, surrounded by rolling hills and dairy farms. Although in an area of outstanding beauty on the borders of Dorset and Devon, having fantastic view of famous hills such as Pilsdon and Lewesdon from nearby fields, Hewish is only a few minutes drive from Crewkerne. Crewkerne is an elegant small town providing all immediate shopping needs and boasting a main railway line to London. Everything you could possibly want from a rural location, where National Trust gardens and houses lie within easy reach. As does the world famous Jurassic Coast line - Bridport, Burton Bradstock, Charmouth - with Lyme Regis only 30 minutes by car through the spectacular Marshwood Vale.We are down a no-through-lane which ends in fields and a river. Lemmings is totally private with its own parking and garden bordered by a stream. There is outside seating available. Breakfast is a sumptuous feast complete with home made marmalade and jams. Nothing is too much trouble and this meal is usually served between 8.00 and 9.30 a.m. Earlier starts can be accommodated.PLEASE NOTE: Check In is from 15:00 to 18:00 & Check Out is by 10:30. We are a NO Smoking accommodation. One well behaved dog [we are adjacent to a working farm]can be accommodated. Welcome to Barn Cottage situated in a beautiful tranquil corner of rural South Somerset, bordering Devon and Dorset. Originally a farm stable, it was converted and extended 20 years ago, and recently refurbished. The views are stunning looking towards Pilsden Pen and Lewesdon Hill, the highest hills in Dorset.
Ideally located, Barn Cottage is halfway between London and the Eden Project in Cornwall. Closer by, it is an excellent base for exploring the beautiful West Country, South Somerset, West Dorset, East Devon, Exmoor, The Mendips and The Quantocks. Within a half hour drive is the beautiful Heritage Coast at Lyme Bay. We are in the middle of many hidden golden stone villages, pretty market towns with thriving Farmer's Markets, lovely little by-roads, golf, riding, swimming and other sporting opportunities. There are excellent coastal and countryside walks, cycle routes, sailing and fishing at Lyme and country pubs.
Overlooking the garden is the dining room, where we provide plenty of scrumptious home made food, ranging from porridge to a full English breakfast with, of course, fresh fruit.
