Fitzhead Court is an unusual and fascinating house of considerable historic interest, set between the Quantock Hills and Exmoor, above the Vale of Taunton Deane. For many years it belonged to the church, where local courts took place, presided over by the Bishop who resided in the house during his annual progressions around the bishopric.
Now it is a private home, available for bed and breakfast and an evening meal if so desired and by arrangement. The facilities include an ensuite bathroom, king sized bed, Freeview TV and DVD, coffee and tea making facilities and hairdryer.
Meals are normally eaten en famille in the large farmhouse kitchen with French window access to the garden.
On a warm evening it is pleasant and relaxing to sit in the garden with a glass of wine or cup of coffee and watch the bats as they swoop out for their evening meals.
The countryside around Fitzhead is the beautiful West Somerset hills, with interesting and diverse walks, up hill and through wooded country, around lakes and ponds. There is a great deal of varied wildlife to be seen on even the most casual of strolls, including badgers, foxes and deer. Buzzards are commonly to be seen wheeling overhead, with pheasants and partridge roaming the lanes and fields. Rabbits, of course, are a local menace and hares not uncommon.
Fitzhead court is only 3 miles from the Bishops Lydeard station of the West Somerset railway, where rides can be taken on the steam railway to Minehead and the sea. There are many other local attractions, including Cothay Manor (5 miles) Exmoor (3 miles) - Hestercombe Gardens (9 miles), Dartmoor (25 miles), the Coleridge Way rural walkway, Clatworthy and Wimbleball reservoirs, for sailing and fishing, Combe Sydenham and sea angling is available at nearby Watchet, Sheppeys Cider only 4 miles away.
Internet access is available, as is an ironing board by arrangement with the owner and there are also Laundry facilities.
We look forward to welcoming you!
