Painswick is an historic town known as 'The Queen of the Cotswolds'. It is surrounded by delightful countryside and National Trust woodlands with 140 designated footpaths for walkers. Painswick Beacon has magnificent views and an 18-hole golf course. The Slad valley is well noted for its wild life and flowers. In the early spring the Rococco Gardens are breathtakingly carpeted with snowdrops. The Cotswold Way path goes through the village; which marks its midway point. Painswick is also a central location for day trips to Cheltenham; Gloucester; Bath; Stratford-upon-Avon; Bourton on the Water; Moreton in Marsh; Bristol and London.
Family-run restaurant; St. Michael's; has a seasonal; weekly-changing menu of English food cooked using French techniques. There is a wide selection of wine also available. Guests can enjoy the beautiful intimate courtyard garden. PLEASE NOTE: Check In is from 14:00 to 10:00. Early Check Ins can be arranged. Check Out is 11:00. Regrettably we cannot accept pets. It enjoys a 4 Star Guest Accommodation Rating.Nestling quietly in the Cotswold hills, surrounded by some of Gloucestershire's most outstanding countryside is the historic wool town of Painswick.Built of mellow Cotswold stone from the local quarry on Painswick Beacon the town's many beautiful buildings can be seen as you wander around it's quaint and narrow streets. There is a variety of small shops and galleries to browse around with pubs and restaurants. The Slad Valley, made famous by Laurie Lee in his book 'Cider with Rosie' is also noted for it's wild flowers as is Scotsquar Common at Edge. Edge, Slad and Sheepscombe are all villages within walking distance of Painswick and well worth a visit. The celebrated Rococo Gardens at Painswick House are open to the public throughout most of the year. In late Winter and early spring the carpets of snowdrops are truly breathtaking.Cardynham House is a 15th-16th Century Grade 2 star listed house. There is wealth of character to be found in every room each one decorated in a style of its own. The House itself has a residents lounge with open fireplace and adjacent to this a conservatory with comfortable chairs overlooking a small internal courtyard. Throughout the house are objects of interest, books, magazines and art works.PLEASE NOTE: Check In is from 12:30 to 22:00 & Check Out is no later than 11:00. We are a no smoking accommodation. HAMBUTTS MYND was built in the 1700s as a corn mill, which was driven by a windmill. It still has the original beam and character. In 1800s it was converted into the first Girls School in the Gloucester village of Painswick and then in latter years it was converted into a normal dwelling house which is now run as a renowned Bed and Breakfast by John and Elizabeth.
HAMBUTTS MYND is situated up a side road and not in the centre of the bustling village. We are 200 yards from the main road, very quiet and just 5 minutes walk (2 blocks) from the beautiful Painswick with its historic buildings and magnificent church grounds.
Painswick is the centre for the Long Distance Cotswold Trail.
All bedrooms have a wonderful view over the valley and hills towards Stroud. Each room is centrally heated, its own colour television and in the Autumn and Winter all beds have electric blankets.
All rooms are en-suite and have tea and coffee facilities.
