Description
If you are looking for a warm welcome in a spacious, quietly situated period house close to the town centre of St Austell, then Bankside is for you. On arrival you will be welcomed with refreshments served in the lounge or in the garden.
We have three attractive and well fitted double bedrooms with their own shower rooms available for guests.
Bedroom one and bedroom two have en suite shower/wc and bedroom three has a private shower/wc. Each bedroom has a colour television, tea/coffee making facilities, and hair dryer. The house has full central heating.
Our gourmet breakfasts are served in the dining room. They feature a choice of cereals and home made items such as wonderful creamy yogurt, home baked wholemeal and white bread, jams and marmalade, locally produced bacon and sausages, free range eggs. Our house specialty is pancakes served with banana, honey, nuts, and yogurt, or with maple syrup and bacon. Fruit juice and a wide choice of teas and fresh ground coffees completes your meal.
We look forward to being of service to you.
Attractions
Many people use St Austell as a base to visit The Eden Project, Heligan Gardens and the National Trust properties in the area. We will be pleased to provide information about all of these, including public transport details.
But there is so much more to see...
...beautiful beaches, headlands and magnificent cliffs, tucked away harbours, rivers, woods...
Why not take time to come and be refreshed, and explore "real Cornwall". It is very easy to get off the beaten track, and we are always pleased to share our local knowledge with you. We are keen walkers ourselves, and can lend you maps and suggest routes for both long day hikes or short strolls. Our house is centrally heated, and provides a very warm, comfortable base for short or longer breaks out of season. We can provide drying facilities for boots and walking gear etc.
Each season of the year has its own special attractions and colours. Cornish gardens are at their most colourful in spring, and the cliffs and woods are often covered in wild flowers. The climate is usually mild in autumn and winter, making it ideal for exploring without any traffic queues.
Mid Cornwall is a garden lovers' paradise - the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Pine Lodge, Lanhydrock, and the award winning Eden Project. St Austell is the ideal base for visiting these attractions, but the area offers so much more: fine sandy beaches, coastal and inland footpaths, cycle trails and golf courses.
The Georgian port of Charlestown, frequently used as a film set and the home of the Shipwreck Museum, is only a couple of miles from the town centre. Fishing and boating activities are available at Fowey (8 miles) and Mevagissey (5 miles) which are linked by a passenger ferry across the lovely St Austell Bay. Although you may not have recognised it, the harbour is well used in feature films such as The Onedin Line and Disney's Three Musketeers. It is the home of Square Sail - a fleet of historic sailing ships earning a living from filming, tourist day trips along the coast and "smuggling trips" across to France.
For those wanting to travel further afield, Lands End, The Lizard (the most southerly point in England), St Ives (Tate Gallery), Falmouth (National Maritime Centre), Plymouth (National Marine Aquarium) are all within day trip distance.
