Attractions
Criccieth is a picturesque, quiet and romantic seaside village situated at the south coast of the Lleyn peninsula. The "southern portal" to the peninsula is dominated by the castle sitting upon a seaside rock. It has been Welsh in the 13th century, before it was taken over and changed by the English under Edward I. The Welsh rebel prince and hero Owain Glyndwr took the castle in 1404 and only 50 years later the castle lay in ruins as it stilld does today.
Snowdonia is one of the best known and best loved landscapes in the UK which does not need much introduction. Named after Snowdon, the highest mountain of England and Wales, the dramatic and rugged area of natural beauty by the sea, is visited by millions of sight-seers and outdoor enthusiasts every year.
The Lleyn Peninsula A line of hills dominated by Yr-Eifl forms the spine of the Lleyn and it is surrounded by a beautyful and varied coastline which invites exploring and enjoying. The long arm of the peninsula which reaches far into the Irish sea has been described as "a wonderful but little known land of green hills and coves". Especially when it is raining in Snowdonia, since the peninsula often remains dry and sunny. This weather phenomenom makes it an ideal location for a seaside holiday !
Bardsey the famous island of the thousand saints is just of the coast of Braich y Pwll, the" Welsh Lands End". A place of pilgrimage and a monastry for many centuries it is now a loneley place with a mysterious and haunted beauty which attracts some visitors.
