Description
CROESO I'R HAFOD / Welcome to The Summer Dwelling
Excellent food, informality and a strong sense of style are the distinguishing characteristics of this small, non-smoking hotel, on the edge of the Snowdownia National Park
As well as being Chris and Rosina Nichol's business, Yr Hafod is also their home, where they try to create an atmosphere of an informal house party. Every evening guests have a choice of dishes, prepared by Chris (who has previously run restaurants with enviable reputations). Coeliacs will find the food very suitable for their diet. To accompany your meal we have an extensive wine list. With only six bedrooms, guests can soon get to know each other adding to the house party feel.
The hotel, including the bedrooms, is furnished with many antiques and decorated in a bright modern style, often with a bold use of colour. The bedrooms are certainly very different from the usual hotel room. Situated in the lovely Conway valley betweem the tourist trap of Betws-y-Coed and the popular castle town of Conwy, Yr Hafod is ideal for those who like peace and to be able to escape the crowds.

Attractions
Located in Trefriw between Betws-y-Coed and Conwy, in the Conwy Valley in North Wales, Yr Hafod is set in grounds that include an off road car park, and extend to some two and a half acres. The landscaped gardens are a perfect place to unwind at the end of the day, and the rhododendrens (see below) are particularly attractive in spring and early summer.
The village of Trefriw nestles into the north eastern edge of Snowdonia, an area full of lakes, woods and hills and which offers a great diversity of walking, from a gentle lakeside amble to the challenge of Carnedd Llewelyn, a mountain only a little lower than Snowdon. Mountain biking and horse riding is also well catered for in this area of Snowdonia.
For guests of a less active disposition, this is an excellent base for exploring Snowdonia and the rest of North Wales with Bodnant Gardens, Betws-y-Coed and Betws-y-Coed all within 15/20 minutes drive. Other attractions include the castles at Conwy, Caernarfon and Dolwyddelan, the steam railways of Ffestiniog, Welsh Highland Railway, and the Snowdon Mountain Railway, National Trust properties at Bodnant Gardens, Penrhryn Castle and Plas Newydd, and much, much more.
