Description
The house has a very homely feeling with lots of interesting features, antique furniture, fresh flowers and a roaring log fire when needed on those frosty winter evenings. You will, of course, be well looked after by the Westropp family.
The impressive 16th Century Hall, now used as a dining room, has the original sandstone floor and a very large open fireplace with a Victorian cooking range
A traditional 2 or 3 course dinner is available in the evenings. All our produce is seasonal, locally sourced and free range or organic. Most fruit and vegetables are from the estate and Lamb and Game from the farm - we are fully licensed and have an interesting selection of wines available.
We serve a generous English breakfast with a wonderful choice of cereals and fruit, nuts and yoghurt.
Guests have their own sitting room with a television, which is cosy and comfortable. It is the perfect place to enjoy a drink before Dinner.
We have 5 main bedrooms all facing south overlooking the garden. They all have either an en-suite or private bathroom and are individually furnished. A tray is provided for you to make a cup of tea or coffee and there is a television in each main bedroom. There is an endless supply of piping hot water so you can enjoy a nice relaxing soak after a hard day in the fells.
5 Main rooms from £80
Single occupancy from £50
Up a stone spiral staircase there are 2 smaller bedrooms which share a shower room.
Singles from £32 and Twin from £56
The whole house is available for family parties or special occasions. We also cater for shooting and fishing parties.
Attractions
Hornby Hall is a charming Tudor Farmhouse accommodation only 4 miles from Penrith and the M6. The house is warm, quiet and comfortable, situated on a working farm in tranquil countryside one mile off the A66 and three miles east of Penrith.
We have a 2 mile stretch of the River Eamont which has been described in the Trout and Salmon magazine as the best wild trout fishing in England. Guests have a special daily rate and we have tuition available by a local expert who is said to know the river stone by stone.
Just beside the river is the ancient tiny church of Ninekirks, which dates back to the 13th Century. It is a peaceful place, only accessible by footpath but is in wonderful condition having been restored in 1660 by Lady Ann Clifford.
