A warm welcome awaits you in our comfortable farmhouse on the Heritage Coast of Northumberland, near Alnwick and Craster in North East England.

Howick Scar Farm, a working farm of 250 acres with sheep, cattle and cereals, has spectacular views, from both bedrooms, of the inward looking cliff face (scar) across two fields toward the sea.

The bathroom is shared and contains a toilet, bath and walk in shower. we always have hot water and bath robes are provided in both bedrooms.

Guests have their own TV lounge/dining room with tea and coffee making facilities.

The hearty breakfasts include our own free range eggs and famous Craster Kippers. All dietary requirements catered for - just let us know what your requirements are in advance and we will do our best to accommodate.

Nearby Cullernose Point juts into the sea and provides a nesting site for sea birds.

The coastal path passes along our shoreline, making us an ideal base for walkers.

The spectacular ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle are also within walking distance.

Northumberland

The local bus service passes our gateway, from which you can explore other castles at Bamburgh, Alnwickand Warkworth, and National Trust properties.

The Fame Islands, famous for their colonies of seals and sea birds, and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, in this region of strong Christian Heritage, are within easy driving distance.

We are in Border Reivers country, the disputed lands between the Scots and the English, from which you can also explore the Scottish Borders.

Alnwick Castle was used extensively in the Harry Potter film and is home of the new Alnwick Gardens with its spectacular water cascade.

Activities

Walking - As well as coastal walks from our doorstep, this unspoilt region, especially the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland National Park, is a haven for walks.
Cycling - We are on the coastal cycle route and provide secure storage for cycles.
Fishing - The River Tweed and River Till are splendid for salmon and trout fishing.
Golfing - For golfers, as well as nearby Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Course, there are several other golf courses nearby
Horse Riding - From Kimmerston Horse Riding Centre you can go riding in the Cheviot Hills and along the breathtaking beaches of Holy Island.

Further Afield

Further south in Northumberland you can visit Hadrian's Wall and see Vindolanda, Housesteads and Chesters Roman sites.

You can also travel to Newcastle, with its new Millennium Bridge, and shop at the Gateshead Metro Centre, one of the largest shopping complexes in Europe.

In County Durham, the land of Prince Bishops, you can see Durham Cathedral and Beamish Museum.
