Attractions
Eastbourne is known as the Sunshine Coast, and living here it is easy to understand why. We have a protected climate, as we are in a 10 mile bay from Beachy Head in the west, to Hastings in the east. On the landward side we have the South Downs, so snow is a rarity, a mild climate the norm, and wild winter seas with nature at its interesting.
Eastbourne is ideal for the short break, or for longer, and any time of the year. It is perfect for families, sporting visitors, theatregoers, golfers, walkers, and all ages. It also offers good dining choices with excellent local beers.
For families, there is the Victorian pier, short boat trips to Beachy Head, two local adventure playgrounds, one of which is under cover, a good choice of fish and chip shops, a train that runs along the seafront to a timetable, and everything to make the youngsters tired but happy. Drusillas Family Zoo is only a 15 minute drive away, and a full day can be spent here.
For the sporting and golfing visitors, there are tennis championships, fishing trips, and excellent local golf courses. As a complimentary extra, when golfers stay with us we arrange their rounds at the Eastbourne Downs Golf Club, and provide them with transport to and from the Club, without charge.
We have four theatres, three of which stay open throughout the year. Top touring productions can be seen, as well as performers who are known internationally and within the U.K. The prices are reasonable, and we can easily purchase tickets for Guests.
For walkers, Eastbourne is at the eastern end of the South Downs Way, starting with Beachy Head. The views are simply awesome, and there is a bus service to aid the stroller who does not want to undertake long walks. Seven Sisters, Birling Gap, all follow on from Beachy Head, and are not onerous walks.
Here at Loriston we are very close to The Marine pub, which serves excellent home cooked food in their non-smoking restaurant. We are lucky that we also have the Dolphin fish and chip restaurant at the end of our road, and we also have Chinese, Thai, Indian and Tex/Mex restaurants within an easy stroll.
As far as the other places of interest are concerned, Eastbourne has mini golf and mini railways on the doorstep, and 1066 Country very close by. Castles such as Pevensey, Herstmonceux, and Battle are living history. Pevensey Castle is an English Heritage site, now 2 miles inland further than when it was first built, Herstmonceux is a 15th Century moated castle, and Battle Abbey is at the end of Battle village, with its old shops. The Abbey has events throughout the year, as well as the battlefield with audio guide.
The above is just a taster of what is on offer for the visitor, and we will be pleased to provide you with brochures and further information.
