Attractions
Brixham, along with Torquay and Paignton is the third resort comprising the English Riviera. Brixham is the smallest town of the three, but is world famous for its historic fishing port. The port at Brixham dates back to the 1600s and by 1850 was said to be the largest fishing port in Britain. Even today, Brixham is one of the busiest fishing ports in the UK.
Life in Brixham therefore centres around the harbour. Here you can find many harbourside shops, watch the fishermen unload their catch, admire the skill of the local artists that gather at 'Artists Corner' and sample freshly caught seafood from one of the harbourside fish stalls.
Away from the harbour you will find narrow, winding streets with a range of independent clothing and gift shops, amusements as well as some national stores, banks and building societies.
Brixham's main claim to fame is that William Of Orange landed here in 1688, an event marked by his statue. Brixham has the remains of a Napoleonic fort at Berry Head, which gives excellent views over the whole bay.
A great place to indulge in a Devon cream tea too.
