Description
A warm welcome, spacious rooms, scenic views and a hearty breakfast all await you at Mountain View B&B, a rural family run B&B near Newmarket in north County Cork. We are ideally located for touring the Cork/Kerry and Limerick areas. Children are most welcome and we accept well behaved dogs and other pets too.
Whether it is a business trip, a family holiday, a short break or just a single night stopover for a family occasion you will be assured of a peaceful and enjoyable stay. Please see my photo galleries and links to other useful websites on our website.
We have two guest bedrooms:- Firstly a spacious groundfloor (downstairs) room with king-size bed, en-suite bathroom, walk-in- wardrobe & easy chair. It is especially suited to less able bodied or elderley guests who might have difficulty managing stairs. Upstairs we have an equally large family room with 3 single beds, again en-suite. A campbed can be incorporated in either room to sleep a total of 6 guests.
Both rooms have scenic views, remote control colour TV, tea & coffee making facilities, dressing table, alarm clock radio and hospitality tray. Leaflets and information about local attractions are provided in the rooms. Ample off road parking.
A hairdryer and ironing facilities are freely available. We also provide a travel cot and highchair free of charge. We have wireless internet coverage or for a small charge we offer internet access on our own computer. We offer the provision of packed lunches alsol
A choice of breakfasts, including full Irish, is served in our spacious dining area which overlooks a large koi carp pool. Vegetarian/gluten free/soya alternatives available by request. We have our own free range hens and ducks who provide us with fresh eggs every day.
Children are most welcome. Children under 12 years of age charged half price.
We also welcome well behaved dogs and other pets. Dogs can be walked in our large garden or there are lanes behind and in front of the property and Island Wood is a 5 minute drive away. We offer a dog sitting service (by prior arrangment only and for a small charge).

Attractions
Kanturk is located 5 miles from Newmarket and has several good restaurants and many bars, a 3 screen cinema, a ruined castle and a beautiful riverside park with a children's play area. Nearby, for a family day out are Liscarrol Donkey Sanctuary (free entry) where you can stroke the friendly donkeys and the spectacular Crag Caves which now has a large ball pond play area for children.
The River Blackwater, with its world renouned salmon fishing, is just a 20 minute drive away and the River Feale is a 20 minute drive north over into Kerry. Trout fishing is also popular with Ballyhass Lakes, a local trout fishery, open all year. We have a large drying room for wet clothes in case it happens to rain!
We are close to the Mullaghareirk Mountains. Bird watchers, botanists and naturalists will be delighted with with superb flora and fauna. We are near several conifer plantations and blanket bogs. Hen harriers and dippers breed along the local rivers. Hares, stoats and badgers are also seen as are secretive red squirrels which are present in Island Wood. This is a large mature wood with trails, river walks and a picturesque picnic area. Dogs can be walked off the lead and it is suitable for buggies/wheelchairs.
3/4 of an hour from Mountain View is the bustling seaside town of Ballybunnion, a real must for families. It has miles of safe "blue flag" sandy beaches with hundreds of rockpools. On the cliff walk you might see chough if you are lucky. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, traditional seaside amusements plus a large playground for children. In Kerry you can also avail of seal/dolphin watching trips, pony trekking, diving and also surfing.
Golfers will no doubt be familiar with the vast array of 18 hole courses in the Cork/Kerry region and Mountain View is an ideal base for playing several courses; Macroom, Kanturk, Charleville, Mallow, Cork, Ballinamona, Blarney, Beaufort and the famous links course at Ballybunnion being just a few.
Tralee Aquadome has a large swimming pool with wave machine, exciting watershutes and saunas/gym for adults. It also has mini golf in the summer months. Blennerville Windmill is also worth a visit at Tralee. There is good birdwatching on the shore here too.
Millstreet Country Park is a vast 500 acre park set against the backdrop of Musheramore Mountains. Here you can find true wilderness: cascading waterfalls and lakes are home to brown trout and otters www.millstreetcountrypark.com will give you more information.
Greenglens Arena is also in Millstreet, it hosts international showjumping events, Disney on Ice and concerts - most recently Bryan Adams and Shayne Ward.
About 6 miles from Mountain View is the village of Rockchapel. Here you will find the "Bruach Na Carraige" Cultural & Heritage Centre where local culture is expressed in the authentic style of the Sliabh Luachra tradition. The centre holds evenings of traditional song, music and dance throughout the year, visit their website www.sliabhluachra.com for further details. Nearby villages also include; Kiskeam, Boherbue, Ballydesmond, Brosna, Taur and Freemount.
We are just over an hour's drive from Cork, Shannon and Kerry airports and there has never been a better time to fly to Ireland with several companies offering discount flights.
