Attractions
From The Fowey Hotel there is always activity on the water to watch, with yachts and tiny passenger ferries operating across the water to Polruan, lots of working craft and of course the tug boats. When a big boat comes a-calling all attention is drawn to the spectacle of its passing up the estuary, often because momentarily, it blots out the landscape and almost the sun!
Two particular annual events of note in Fowey are the Daphne DuMaurier Literary Festival, which takes place each May and features many authors and personalities of note and the Fowey Royal Regatta in August, one highlight of which is a performance by the Red Arrows. This performance is special because of the setting and the fact that it is one of the Red Arrows favourite shows - they always return after their show to enjoy the activities in the town. The best views of the aerobatics are to be had from the hotel and more often than not, you can meet these flying marvels personally in the hotel afterwards!
There are many breath-taking views to be found in the local area and the Hotel holds tourist information, visitor guides and maps for several beautiful walks.
The river itself is navigable for 5 miles. There are boats for hire and ones offering excursions to explore the many creeks and tributaries amongst some of the quietest and most lush scenery in Cornwall.
The Fowey Hotel is a mere 15 minute drive from the spectacular Eden project, hailed as a "living theatre of plants and people". This unique attraction illustrates perfectly that a whole new world can be grown from the seed of imagination.
It is the perfect base from which to visit not only Eden but the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Llanhydrock House, the historic port of Charlestown and Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum to name but a few..
