Attractions
Ambleside is the most popular venue for visitors to the Southern Lake District and provides a wealth of visitor attractions and restaurants, pubs, activities, all without spoiling the unique charm and character of this lovely market town.
With some thirty restaurants and ten pubs, there are endless choices to tempt even the most discerning diner! For that extra special dining experience, we recommend the Log House Restaurant within easy walking distance. Enjoy a 10% discount on production of our business card. What's more, Wordsworth's Guest House is within easy "rolling home" distance!!
Ambleside also boasts its own stylish and up to date two screen cinema showing all the latest films. With it's own restaurant attached, the "cinema deals" offered will provide you with a delicious meal and a reserved cinema ticket to boot.
We have two parks in Ambleside, Rothay Park with a childrens' rustic and imaginative adventure play area, and Borrans Park by the shores of Lake Windermere at Waterhead. This is also adjacent to Galava, the ancient Roman settlement, where you can see the remains of the fort and then perhaps visit the Ambleside museum at the Armitt Library in the town centre
In the centre of Ambleside there is a crown bowling green, pitch-and-put and tennis courts which are open to the public every day except Sundays - a requirement due to the fact that the area is consecrated ground!
What, with the nearby lake cruises, National Trust buildings - the homes of Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, waterfall walks, gift shops and much more, it is easy to see why Ambleside so effortlessly attracts so many visitors year after year.
