The house has a very homely feeling with lots of interesting features, antique furniture, fresh flowers and a roaring log fire when needed on those frosty winter evenings. You will, of course, be well looked after by Ros Sanders.
The impressive 16th Century Hall, now used as a dining room, has the original sandstone floor and a very large open fireplace with a Victorian cooking range
A traditional 3 course dinner is available in the evenings. We use fresh fruit and vegetables from our own gardens and lamb and game from the Farm. As every meal is freshly cooked it would be most helpful if dinner is booked in advance - we are fully licensed and have an interesting selection of wines available.
We serve a generous English breakfast with a wonderful choice of cereals and fruit, nuts and yoghurt.
Guests have their own sitting room with a television, which is cosy and comfortable. It is the perfect place to enjoy a drink before Dinner. You may find a placid yellow Labrador sharing your hearth rug.
We have 5 main bedrooms all facing south overlooking the garden. They all have either an en-suite or private bathroom and are individually furnished. A tray is provided for you to make a cup of tea or coffee and there is a television in each main bedroom. There is an endless supply of piping hot water as well as bath oil and large fluffy bath towels.
Up a stone spiral staircase there are 2 smaller bedrooms which share a shower room. They date from 1564, about the time Columbus discovered America, and one used to be The Chapel.
The whole house is available for family or house parties and the Dining Room can be booked for private use for those wanting to have their own dinner parties "in Tudor splendour without all the washing up". Ideal to celebrate an occasion such as an anniversary or family reunion. We also cater for shooting parties who shoot on the Estate or on other shoots nearby.
Hornby Hall is the perfect place and location to celebrate a special occasion such as an anniversary or perhaps a family reunion and is one of our specialities. All the arrangements are agreed in advance and whatever you are celebrating will be made even more memorable by your stay at Hornby Hall.
If you are looking for bed and breakfast in cumbria, then Hornby Hall Country House will leave you with lasting happy memories.
