Oakey Dene is nestled in the beautiful Allen Valley just a short drive from Allendale Town.This is the home of Alan and Carol Davison. On arrival you are guaranteed a warm welcome, a pot of tea and delicious home-made scones.

The rural setting is delightful from the high uninhabited moorland to the fertile farming valleys. There is some of the finest walking in the country from an energetic hike over the Pennine fells to a gentle stroll in the river valleys.

In the evenings relax in the sitting room and dining room, kept cosy and warm with log fires in cooler weather. Children & pets are most welcome - come and see our prize winning herd of Toggenburgh Goats.

Thornley House is a Visit Britain 4 Star Rated guesthouse located in the beautiful countryside of Northumberland near the village of Allendale and the market town of Hexham.

Hadrian's Wall is only 20 minutes drive away; whilst Beamish Museum; Kielder Water and the stately homes of Wallington Hall and Cragside are a few of the many attractions within easy reach. For those who enjoy walking and bird watching; there are many interesting and spectacular walks. Thornley also provides alternative accommodations for those attending weddings at nearby Langley Castle.

This beautiful country house is surrounded by a large garden with its own tree lined drive; a field and woodland where pheasants nest and rabbits roam. A B&B for lovers of fine cats and fine music.

PLEASE NOTE: Check in is from 15:00 till 22:00. If you require early or late check in please confirm with Thornley House. Children welcome. We can accept well behaved dogs. We are a no smoking establishment. There are three bedrooms, all with TV, private facilities and tea makers. There are two lounges, one with large plasma screen TV and one with a Steinway grand piano. Guests may use these during the day if the weather is inclement. There is an ample supply of tourist information, games jigsaws and books. The house is centrally heated. Cat lovers will particularly enjoy the original paintings of felines by international artists, as well as other cat memorabilia and the five living members of the species.

A three bed-roomed house set in an area of ‘outstanding natural beauty’. The house has fantastic views over the surrounding countryside which is easily explored on the many footpaths nearby.Holmcroft is easily accessed by private car or public transport which means even those without a car can enjoy a holiday here.Allendale ( winner of best Village in England 2008) is a pleasant 15 minute walk away or a 3 minute car journey. Here you will find plenty of good eating places, pubs, shops, churches and health centre. Our local Co-op stocks just about anything you might want at competitive prices and the eight till late shop means there’s always somewhere to get supplies. Recently extensively modernised the local Post Office provides, along with postal services, a coffee shop, news-agency and gift shop. Also in the village you’ll find a butchers and chemist. Watch the notice boards and shop windows in the village centre as most week-ends you’ll find there’s musical or theatrical entertainment going on at some local venue. At new year Alendale is noted for its Tar Barrel celebration. There are a wealth of wonderful walks right on the doorstep as well as horse riding and golf just a few miles up the valley. Keen fishermen can enjoy fishing at Langley, just four miles down the road.

The Allen Valley is a beautiful area in the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and Station House Flat is a mile from attractive, stone-built Allendale village, with its good local shops and pubs. The village hall and one of the pubs are the focus of a regular programme of bands, dances and other social events that are open to visitors. Look out for the Allendale Fair in May, the Allendale Show in August and the historic Tar Barrel Festival on New Year’s Eve as well as a host of other shows and festivals in local towns and villages.

Station House is the former Allendale Railway Station, the terminal station on the Hexham to Allendale line, which closed in 1950. Station House Flat faces the platform and is comprised of the ticket office, station-master’s office and waiting rooms of the old station.

The area abounds in paths for walking and cycling with a host of wildlife to be seen and the mile-long walk along the riverbank to Allendale is particularly recommended. The best, central, part of Hadrian’s Wall is only 10 miles away, with a range of local museums where you can absorb the history of this world heritage site. Why not walk some of the newly opened National Trail along the wall or some of the circular paths which lead from it? The bustling market town of Hexham is 10 miles away, with many small shops and coffee shops to explore.
