Anthony and Jane Rogers extend a warm welcome to Carwinion House
Carwinion, an 18th Century manor house in Mawnan-Smith, Nr Falmouth, Cornwall. Set in 12 acres of natural Victorian gardens overlooking the Helford River Estuary.
Carwinion is renowned for its traditional Bed and Breakfast and Cornish fare. Enthusiasts flock from all over the world to take advantage of its unique collection of Bamboo. Others visit Carwinion to relax and walk through the tranquil gardens to view the many species of ferns and camellias, to enjoy the Cornish air and round off with a Cream Tea on the terrace.
The house was built at the end of the 18th century and added to in the 1840s. It was at this time that the garden started to be developed. The Rogers family together with their cousins, the Fox's of Glendurgan, collaborated to bring in rare plants. The very fine specimens of Dicksonia Antartica and Cryptomaria Japonica are most likely to date from this time. The few bamboo originally in the garden were introduced at the beginning of the 20th century.
Anthony Rogers has spent 30 years restoring and replanting Carwinion which became the property of the National Trust in 1969.
The garden in Anthony's words, unmanicured. It has to be so. The days when there were 15 gardeners have long gone, these days Jane still oversees the garden and its planting and gets out there when time allows and Chris continues to be an invaluable and indispensible help twice a week. Needless to say we're always on the look-out for willing volunteers!

Bed and Breakfast is available. A full English breakfast is given and an evening meal on request.
When you stay at Carwinion there is a warm ambience, the rooms are large and airy, and all have en suite, with Television and tea making facilities. Panoramic views or garden each delightful.
