Built next to a 17th century Inn on the banks of the Teign estuary, the hotel offers a (modern) comfortable atmosphere whether your stay is for business or pleasure.There has been a hostelry on the site since Roman times. It was the site of a tidal ford and travellers would arrive and wait to cross the river. The hostelry became known as the ‘passage way' across the river now the Passage House.In later years a granite railway was built to link the quarries on Dartmoor with the Stover Canal shipping granite which was used on many of London's famous buildings. Also china clay was mined locally and shipped out via the Hackney Canal. The river was a hive of activity with the Lightermen and Barge's working the estuary and canals. The earliest recorded history of Bickley Mill dates back to 1294 when it was mentioned in Bishop Bronscombe's Register. For many years the Inn was used as a flour Mill.

The Mill was converted to a Free House in 1971 and since its conversion to allow for guest bedrooms, we invite you to stay overnight or for short stays. So if the real English Ale proves too much for the journey home, our comfortable rooms provide an excellent place for your slumber!
