Attractions

Berwick-upon-Tweed is England's most northernly town midway between Edinburgh and Newcastle and only two miles from the Scottish Borders. A walk around our Elizabethan Walls is a must and there is also a Lowry Trail which takes the visitor around Berwick, Tweedmouth and Spittal.

The coast and castle cycle way passes through Berwick and the Pennine Cycleway ends here. Why not let the train take the strain and have a day out in Edinburgh, only forty minutes.

North Northumberland and the Border Country are rich in history and natural beauty, many castles and stately homes, all within easy reach of Berwick. In the town itself Berwick offers lots of interesting places to visit and many lovely walks. A walk around the magnificent Elizabethan Walls is a must, they are complete, about one and a half miles around and are a great way of seeing around Berwick.

You can also see Lindisfarne Castle from them (on a good day). Walking the walls you will see the Barracks which houses the Kings Own Scottish Borders regimental museum, by-beat-of-drum, an exhibition of warfare by English Heritage and the Town Museum displaying exciting exhibits and also part of the Burrel Collection.

The 18th century Town Hall standing in the High Street offers guided tours of the Council Chambers and Cell Block Museum. Check the Maltings Art Centre for entertainment, a very varied programme, something to suit everyone and a cafe with rooftop views.

If you are feeling energetic, the Swan Centre for Leisure offers first class facilities for working out and there is a leisure pool with flume and wave machines. For golfers the 18 hole Magdalene Golf Course includes a few tricky shots from and over the sea.
