Hallbarns is in the village of Simonburn on the edge if Northumberland National Park and close to Hadrian's Wall. The village has an atmospheric and historic charm that caused it to be used in films of Catherine Cookson books.

Simonburn has a Stone Circle that stands near a cairn and the remains of an Iron Age homestead.
