Lakeside Country Guest House
The Osprey disappeared in England for over 150 years but have been returning annually for the past 4 years.
Our guests have delighted in observing them from the hotel terrace as the birds search for fish on Bassenthwaite Lake directly in front of the hotel.
If you are a keen birdwatcher then there are many different bird species to observe from the outside furnished sun terrace, but the highlight has to be observing the Osprey who swoop for fish for their chicks directly in front of the house.
In addition there are 2 sites locally which have been set up to further enhance your viewing.
At Dodd Wood there are powerful telescopes and informative Rangers.
At Whinlatter Forest Centre a camcorder is placed in the nest so viewer can see the activities on the big screen, including the chicks hatching!!
Let's hope they return for 2009!
Fishing is also available from the lake and river with permits available locally
