The Metropole Hotel
A B&B stay at The Metropole, Padstow, offers the opportunity to stay in the ‘foodie’ capital of the UK! The Metropole is an imposing Victorian building, perched majestically on the crest of a gentle hill, with spectacular views of the popular Cornish harbour town of Padstow and the stunning Camel Estuary. As a working fishing harbour, Padstow is best-known for its seafood, which features, of course, on the hotel's restaurant and bar menus.
The Metropole has an elegantly presented and welcoming interior with 58 comfortably furnished en- suite bedrooms, award-winning restaurant, bar, conservatory and 2 lounge areas. In addition to some of the best views of Padstow, it also has an outdoor swimming pool (open July/August) in sheltered grounds and plenty of guest parking.
The Metropole has 3 categories of bedroom: Premier (some with 4-poster beds) with the very best views available and some extra luxurious touches; Select, which have views over the harbour or estuary, and Standard. All rooms are equipped with hospitality tray, remote control colour TV, radio, hairdryer and direct dial telephone.
Standard double/twin rooms from £152 B&B per room per night (based on 2 sharing).
The hotel’s 2 lounge areas have comfortable seating, perfect for relaxing with coffee after dinner, enjoying a traditional Cornish Cream Tea or as a daytime retreat (refuge) to catch up with postcard writing and reading. A log fire during the winter months makes the main lounge a cosy place, just right for curling up in an armchair with a good book and delicious hot chocolate!
Inspiration drawn from the sea is evident in the delicious, seasonally changing menus that are freshly prepared each day in The Harbour View - The Metropole’s AA Rosette restaurant. Head Chef Adam Warne makes good use of the abundance of high quality, local produce - meat, game and poultry, as well as the fish that Padstow is so famous for. A talented kitchen brigade also provides vegetarian options to tempt any discerning palates.
We look forward to welcoming you to The Metropole.
Within 5 minutes of the hotel you can be pottering round the village, on a bike to ride the Camel Trail to Wadebridge where once upon a time your could sell your wife for less than 2 shillings! Within 10 minutes you can be setting up your spot for the day on a wide expanse of sandy beach (there are several to choose from nearby). Alternatively you can jump into the hotel's outdoor pool (open July/August) and just laze about in the gardens.
Attractions such as The Eden Project, Camel Valley Vineyard (best bubbly!), National Trust's Llanhydrock House and the private Pencarrow House are all within easy travelling distance. There's also plenty happening in the village, not least of which is Obby Oss Day on May 1st, when the streets are alive in celebration. It's an intriguing spectacle that draws people back time and again.
If gardening is your cup of tea then the beauty of the Eden project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and the surprisingly abundant Pine Lodge Gardens in nearby St Austell are easily accessible.
