Description

The Old Count House is situated in a small, quiet square, the house enjoys breathtaking views of the town, harbour and bay. You can enjoy all the home comforts in our excellently presented accommodation whilst savouring the charm and character of a traditional Cornish Count House with a fascinating history.

The Old Count House was built from local granite in 1825 and was so named because it was from here that the wages were counted out and paid to the tin miners of Wheal Trenwith.

The Old Count House has ten comfortably furnished guest rooms all of which are en-suite and individually decorated – one has a stylish four-poster with luxurious Jacuzzi bath and another a distinctive canopied bed. Seven of the bedrooms are at the front of the house and enjoy magnificent views over the town, harbour and bay.

The Old Count House is in a quiet residential area with private parking and easy access to St Ives town, beaches and Tate Gallery.

A ‘park and ride’ scheme is nearby to save taking your car into town – a great advantage in busy times. Ground floor rooms are also available. All our rooms are heated and have tea-making facilities, hairdryers and all have colour televisions. Our cosy lounge has an open fire for out of season breaks, colour television and video.

We also have an authentic Finnish sauna within our conservatory – a perfect place to spoil yourself and relax whilst looking out on to our beautiful tropical garden.

We offer a choice of breakfasts including a hearty Full English grill, freshly baked croissants or kippers. Our excellent cuisine is personally prepared using fresh local produce and served by ourselves as resident proprietors, who take pride in our home.

We have ample private parking. We are a non-smoking household and regret we are unable to cater for pets or children.

Attractions

Many regard St Ives as the most picturesque resort in Cornwall with its ever changing combination of magnificent coastal views and narrow streets which wind their way between quaint fishermen’s cottages. Throughout the town there are fascinating shops, craft markets, museums and galleries. St Ives has for many years been famous for its artists’ colony and now boasts its own Tate Gallery opened by Prince Charles in 1993.

This spectacular building, overlooking Porthmeor Beach, houses paintings, sculpture and pottery by distinguished local artists and will also stage exhibitions of work and art 0from the Tate’s international collections.

A variety of activities are available including water-skiing, paragliding and windsurfing. The impressive new St Ives Leisure Centre is a mere two minute walk away where the Gym hosts the latest in fitness equipment and enjoys breathtaking views over St Ives Bay, together with aerobics, yoga and step classes and an Olympic sized swimming pool.

Also available are fishing or boat trips around the bay to Seal Island, pony trekking and golf.

We are ideally situated for touring and the coastal path. For a more exclusive day's outing, the beautiful and tranquil Isles of Scilly may be reached by helicopter or ferry from our neighbouring town of Penzance.

Both the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are approximately one hour’s drive away or you can leave the car behind and take a coach, both bookable locally.
